The villain was very well done as it was hardly even shown until the end. I believe it was especially effective in the beach scenes as the crowd never knew that they were being stalked by a monster. The shark (Villain) really brought out the fear of the unknown in the actors who played in the film. Therefore the villain accomplished its objective as being a fearful yet elusive character throughout the film. The second reason it fits in to the name of a blockbuster, is that it had really great soundtracks. The soundtrack that was used when the shark was going in for the kill of the young women at the begging really emphasized the action. It was very similar to the soundtrack used in Psycho, when the “mother” was stabbing the woman. The last reason I believe Jaws fits the criteria is that it had some awesome special effects. The ending when the shark explodes because the sheriff shoots the barrels inside its mouth, really made the ending memorable but it also proves that it had some really good special effects.
Jaws is definitely a blockbuster for a couple of reasons. It was revolutionary for the time it was released and it still considered one of the greatest movies of all time today. It had a huge budget (approx. $8 million) but it made a tremendous amount of money (approx. $470 million). Jaws has received multiple awards and got great reviews (about 8.3/10 average).

During the shark attack scenes, the music that plays is synonymise with terror. Almost everyone has heard that music and knows what movie it’s from. The soundtrack is renowned as one of the best in movies. The music builds the suspense during the scenes and keeps the audience on the edge of their seats.

Camera angles are used effectively in Jaws in many scenes especially during attack and fight scenes. The POV used in the scenes when the shark is creeping up on the civilian victims really adds to the drama. You get a cool underwater view and as a viewer you anticipate what’s going to happen, yet the waiting is what’s suspenseful. Another great camera angle is used when the civilians are actually getting attacked. The camera just sits there focusing in on the victims face as they are getting attacked and dragged under water. The acting by the civilians who get attacked in Jaws really helped sell the fact that they were helpless and terrified.

In conclusion, Jaws is most definitely a blockbuster because of its great use of soundtrack and camera angles.
I think that Jaws is a blockbuster because it follows the plot line forumla.

(thanks for the title Brandon)
I decided to look at the scene where the main character kills the shark at the end of the movie. The director uses two very good techniques to improve the climax of the movie. The two techniques that the director uses are suspenseful music and good angles. The whole time that the shark is swimming towards him, there is very intense suspenseful music playing very loudly. The music slowly gets louder as the shark is getting closer. Right before the final shot, the music cuts out completely. This makes it more suspenseful. The other technique that is very effective is the camera angle that the director uses in order to show the death of the shark effectively. Right after the main character shoots the air tank in the shark’s mouth, the camera angle switches to an underwater view from below. The angle that he uses is a low shot as well as a pan shot and a Dutch angle. These are very effective together because they show the slowly sinking body move towards the bottom of the ocean. This gives the viewer a very good feeling of safety now that they know that the shark is truly dead. Both of these techniques worked very well when they were used together in one of the final important scenes of the movie. This is part of the reasons why “Jaws” is well known as being a top blockbuster of all time.
Jaws is a blockbuster because, It has all the major aspects of blockbusters that we look for, a villan, a hero, and the villans lair.

The villan is the shark of course, he kills many innocent people and the hero is the sheriff. The altercation between the 2 is epic. The hero overcomes his own downfalls to defeat the villan. The setting is a huge part of this movie, the Hero is afraid of the water and the villan can only be in the water so therefore the hero must overcome his own weakness.
I think that the film Jaws fits into our conception of a Blockbuster for many reasons. First of all a good Blockbuster has a lot of action in it. In Jaws there is a good 15-20 minute chunk at the end of the film where it is mainly all action. The scene when the main character, the shark professional and the fisherman are on the water and are “fighting” the shark helps to make the film fit into the criteria of a Blockbuster. The shark destroys the boat, the men shoot the shark multiple times, the fisherman gets eaten and eventually the main character blows up the shark. All of these pieces of the scene at the end of the film help to make Jaws fit into the criteria of a Blockbuster. The music in the film also helps to make Jaws a Blockbuster. Whenever the shark is near or swimming, there is the very famous “Jaws” music that comes on. This music is very effective in creating a suspenseful atmosphere when it is heard. Finally, the special effects in the film helped to make it a Blockbuster. For the time we are in now, the special effects are horrible but considering the time that the film was released, the special effects are very good. The scene where the fisherman gets eaten by the shark shows off the special effects because you can see most of the shark for one of the first times. The good special effects shows that the film was not a low budget one, thus making it a good Blockbuster. Overall, the action, music and special effects all contribute to what makes Jaws a Blockbuster film.
Jaws was a great film that I found a perfect blockbuster. The techniques I noticed were music, camera angles and the computerized effects.

Music was able to move along compatibably with the film because it made the film more suspenseful and thrilling. The use of music when the shark approaches add warning for the viewers and made it a predictable showing.

The camera angles added emphasis on the scenes. The part where Quinn was slowly getting devoured by the shark, the camera showed the action that was happening and Quinn struggling to escape the shark.

Computerized effects involved the shark functioning and it cooperated with the actors quite rhythmically. The shark appeared when it was needed and the ending where the shark blew up was a great example of the effect.

Jaws a good blockbuster film because it had these effects and others, had a plot, and cooperating villian and heroes or by-standers.
For me, Jaws has always been and always will be a blockbuster. It has stood the test of time for years and is often seen as the first major blockbuster, pathing the way for all the rest that were to follow. It has set the bar at and all time high and thus far few have come close to meeting that bar.

Speilberg use many brilliant techniques throughout the movie. One that continues to be used today is the soundtrack, that very famous jaws theme. Used mainly as a warning of what is to come, it often accompanies the shark and the scenes in which he appears. It creates suspense, thrill and even a little bit of fear in some of us. It is know unanimously but almost everyone, even those that may not have seen the movie. Another excellent technique that he uses is his shot angles. During one seen, a small fishing boat is shown leaving port insearch of the shark, but the shot is framed through a large pair of great white shark jaws. This shot not only foreshadows things to come but it also makes people aware of how small and helpless this trio on the fishing boat are in comparison to the large shark they are hunting. This gives the shark more power and ultimately creates him as a fearsome foe while at the same time itreduces the power the team once possesed and makes them seem vulnerable.
Jaws fits into the category of blockbuster because setting, themes and props. First off a good blockbuster needs a panoramic landscape, with lots of colour. There were a lot of shots of them being on the water, and shots of the clear blue open sea. Second, blockbusters need to have a certain ‘theme’ in the movie. The theme in the movie is ‘Good vs Evil’. We as the audience know that this is the theme of the film because the story is about 3 men (good) fighting to kill a shark (evil). Also, like in other blockbuster films with this theme, good always prevails over evil. Last, the big impressive props are always needed to create a successful blockbuster. The big impressive prop in this film is the robotic shark. Since this film was made in 1975, there wasn’t any CGI so they had to use an expensive robotic shark to make the image. This shark was the icon for this film, which lead to people thinking of this film every time they see sharks, or their jaws’.
Jaws" that made it as great as it is.

The ending scene was done really well. How they showed the shark from above water to it underwater with its great big teeth out add a scary affect.

The soundtrack in the film was always intense at the right moments and it normally led up to a good action scene.

The explosion of the shark was a good ending because you knew for a fact that the shark was dead and you got to see a big explosion of guts.
