IDC4O – The Most Important Assignment of the Year This assignment will test not only your intellectual capabilities and strain you perhaps past the point of no return, but will ultimately be the greatest determinant of whether you will rise from the ashes of failed students and soar like the majestic eagle, or flop helplessly in the waters of ignorance like a foolish manatee. Though there are only two steps to this assignment, read the instructions carefully.
Step 1 You will create a one-page information extravaganza whereby I will get to know your familiarity with film, photography, propaganda, pop culture and the various forms of media.
This can be completed in Microsoft Word, Corel Draw, or Adobe Premiere. Please be creative with your composition paying attention to colour, graphics and design (the text can be in the form of a letter, questions and answers, or however you would like to organize your info). Make sure to address the following information: Ø Your Name Ø Your Courses Ø Your Academic History (that long and twisted friendship between you and school) Ø Favorite Movie/Director Ø Favorite Band/Singer Ø Favorite Summer Adventure (fiction and non-fiction welcome) Ø Your knowledge of photography (familiarity with digital/35mm) Ø Advice to an Ignorant Teacher (ignorant of you at least… let me know what I can do to make sure you will be successful in this course) Ø Predictions: Best/Worst Reason for Success (or lack there of)
And of course be sure to match your responses with some sort of graphic representation (search online for pictures). This will be a timed assignment, so please answer the questions to the fullest of your abilities and leave time for the equally important Step 2. Step 2 Save your file to your “Y:” drive. This drive can be accessed anywhere in the school, so it would be wise to create a “IDC4O” subfolder to save all of your work to (to do this look for the file folder with the yellow star when either opening or saving).
Now this is where it gets tricky. Save your file as “FirstName.LastName.AssignmentOne.Doc”. So if your parents were kind enough to name you Pippen McDonald, then your file would be “Pippen.McDonald.AssignmentOne.Doc”. Next, locate and open the “Classes” Folder on your desktop. Find the folder that says FIDDES_IDC401 and open it. Then go to the “Handin” folder. This is where you will submit all of your work for this class, as well as this assignment. Minimize this window and keep it open as you will need it in a minute. Close this file, and go to the “My Documents” Folder, found in the “Y Drive” under the “My Computer” icon on your desktop (Hint – it has your name on it!) Locate this file there and highlight it. Right click or hit edit on the above toolbar and “Copy” the file. Go to the “Handin” Folder that is minimized on your bottom toolbar and and paste the file in. Please DO NOT drag and drop. This will not work. You are finished the first assignment! Take a moment to bask in your great success. But note that ALL assignments should be saved and backed up this way throughout the course.
