For our first major analytic assignment you will complete both parts of the assignment (though only one part for each film we will watch in class). Part A – Written Response
Prepare a formal report on the following subject: Discuss any three elements of suspense that are used effectively in the film. Comment on the technique itself and why it is effective. Be very specific when referring to the film – make sure to refer to specific scenes and specific film techniques used within each scene. This report should include and Introduction, Conclusion and Argument Paragraphs where you discuss the elements of suspense films/thrillers. As it is a report, include a title (that is not just “Movie Written Response”), and sub-headings within the report. Part B – Scene Analysis Presentation
Analyze a specific scene and create a presentation: You will sign up for a specific scene on the movie that you don’t write a written analysis for. Make sure to pick a scene that you can discuss at least three film techniques that are used effectively. During your presentation you should show the film clip, and then using PowerPoint (or similar software) analyze the effectiveness of the film techniques, including screen captures of the scene in order to back up your analysis (using clips found on the internet, or the Print Screen function “PRTSCN” button. Make sure to include a question or two for class discussion. Rubrics for both assignments are included below. Unit 1 - History of Film Home Page
