IDC4O – Classic Films Assignment

Overview

For this assignment you will be signing up for a classic film and watching a 15-20 minute section of the movie. After you have complete the requirements outlined below you will go around and visit other presentations and fill out an information sheet for these classic movies.

For an example of the finished product, please check out the exemplar on “Birth of a Nation”.


Learning Goals

  • To gain an understanding of what makes a film a “classic”
  • To gain knowledge of a variety of classic films
  • To use knowledge of film techniques to begin analyzing why scenes/films are successful


Assignment

For this assignment you must research the following information and organize it into a PowerPoint presentation that can be viewed as a stand-alone presentation (understood without you having to explain everything):
  • Film Information – Director; Year Released; Actors;
  • Critical Response – Why the film is considered to be a classic
  • Influence – What films has it influenced
  • Scene Analysis – pick a 20-30 second scene and explain why it is effective using at least 2 different film techniques (you must include screen captures for this portion of the assignment)


Anti-Presentation

You will not actually be presenting this, but rather visiting others’ PowerPoints and filling out an information sheet (check Page 3) on a variety of different movies.
